It started in 1951, when Joe King began selling shoes out of his Broadway Street home before opening a storefront on Warren Street — where he became known as "the Mayor of Warren Street." Three generations later, Joe King's is one of the few independent, full-service family shoe stores left in New England, and we still fit feet the way we always have: in person, by hand, with a Brannock device. Longtime customers now bring their grandchildren to be sized on the very same wooden bench they sat on as kids. What's changed for our 75th year is the technology behind the service — a new point-of-sale system, a customer loyalty program, and an online store that brings our fitting expertise to more people than ever.
Joe King starts selling shoes out of his Broadway Street home, then opens a storefront on Warren Street — earning the nickname "the Mayor of Warren Street."
Joe's son Tom King and his wife Judi take over, deepening the shop's community ties and its service to local institutions.
The store relocates to 18 Pleasant Street, and founder Joe King officially retires.
Tom King and Concord's Horizon Bank & Trust ship more than 1,100 pairs of shoes and boots to a Romanian orphanage for children with disabilities — making international headlines.
Joe King's settles into its permanent, landmark home at 45 North Main Street.
Stephanie King steps into full-time management after a 29-year teaching career, carrying on the family tradition alongside cousins and extended family.
